Fulbright Scholarships: Research & Teaching
Would you like to further your postdoctoral research project at a U.S. university? Or are you planning a teaching assignment in the U.S. as part of an exchange program for university faculty? With the “Research & Teaching” fellowship, you can teach or conduct research—or combine both activities—at a U.S. university or non-university research institution for a period of three to nine months.
Researchers and research assistants who hold a Ph.D. are eligible to apply.
The fellowship is intended for high-achieving, academically outstanding researchers and faculty members in the early or mid-stage of their academic careers who wish to contribute to academic and cultural exchange between Germany and the United States through their commitment. People from all walks of life who have demonstrated excellence in their studies or research are therefore warmly invited to apply for our programs.
Applicants must be German citizens*. Applicants should be willing to promote German-American understanding (for example, by conducting and initiating joint teaching/research projects, student exchanges, etc.).
To apply, applicants must submit a written invitation from the intended (accredited) U.S. host university or academic institution that refers to the implementation and supervision of the proposed research or teaching project.
*Applicants who hold dual German-American citizenship cannot be considered for funding due to visa requirements for program participation.
The 2027–28 “Research and Teaching” Fellowship Program is currently open for applications, with a deadline of October 7, 2026 (1:59 p.m.). For more information, please visit: German-American Fulbright Commission: Program | German-American Fulbright Commission
