
Deadline Preproposal "Translational Research on Cancer Metabolism: Multidisciplinary Approaches for Diagnosis and Treatment"
The BMFTR has published a call for proposals for funding of projects on the topic of ‘Translational Research on Cancer Metabolism: Multidisciplinary Approaches for Diagnosis and Treatment’ as part of the EU network TRANSCAN-4.
Funding is available for international, translation-oriented research consortia that cover one of the specific thematic areas listed below and are based on a well-founded research hypothesis. The research approaches should be aimed at contributing to the development of innovative, personalised approaches to cancer diagnosis, patient stratification and treatment, based on a deeper mechanistic understanding of metabolic changes in cancer.
Theme 1: Improving cancer diagnosis and monitoring through metabolic biomarkers
Theme 2: Exploiting metabolic vulnerabilities to improve precision medicine
A key requirement for all applications is that the proposed research must be of significant clinical relevance.
We welcome approaches that incorporate spatial transcriptomics and single-cell/multi-omics approaches, as well as other innovative methods such as artificial intelligence, liquid biopsy, radiomics and advanced information technology approaches. Applications may also contain strong biomedical components, for example organoids, cancer vaccines, nanoparticles or other advanced model systems.
Interdisciplinary approaches that incorporate expertise from engineering, computer science, physics or related fields, in addition to biology and medicine, are particularly welcome, provided they clearly address unmet clinical needs and demonstrate potential impact on patients and population groups.”

The application process consists of three stages. The deadline for submitting project outlines (pre-proposals) is 21 July 2026.
