6. Aachener Animal welfare Award - Apply now!

This year marks the sixth time that the 3R Animal Welfare Prize, worth €4,500 (€1,500 per R), will be awarded by the Faculty of Medicine at RWTH Aachen University. The prize is awarded for innovative scientific work that contributes to the 3R concept according to Russel and Burch (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) in order to replace or reduce animal experiments or lead to an improvement in experimental conditions. All members of RWTH Aachen University are eligible to apply.

Interested parties can apply with a publication, a dissertation, or a book contribution. The documents must be submitted electronically by October 20, 2025, to the chair of the selection committee, Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Dr. med. dent. Dr. phil. Dominik Groß, Director of the Institute for History, Theory, and Ethics in Medicine.

Submissions from the previous year that were not considered may be resubmitted this year.

The award ceremony will take place during the third annual meeting of the 3R Competence Network NRW (3rd Annual Meeting) from November 27 to 28, 2025. On the evening of the first day of the event, we cordially invite you to a get-together in Aachen, where the renowned RWTH Aachen University Animal Welfare Award will be presented - a special opportunity to honor outstanding contributions to animal welfare and strengthen the network at the same time.
