6th. Aachener Animal welfare Award - Apply now!

This year marks the sixth time that the 3R Animal Welfare Prize of the Faculty of Medicine at RWTH Aachen University, which is endowed with €4,500 (€1,500 per R) is awarded.

The prize recognizes innovative scientific work that contributes to the 3R concept according to Russel and Burch (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) in order to replace or reduce animal testing or lead to an improvement in testing conditions. All members of RWTH Aachen University are eligible to apply.

Interested parties can apply with a publication, a dissertation, or a book contribution. The documents must be submitted electronically by October 13, 2025, to the chair of the selection committee, Prof. Dr. med. Dr. med. dent. Dr. phil. D. Groß (Institute for History, Theory, and Ethics in Medicine).

Submissions from the previous year that were not considered can be resubmitted this year.

The award ceremony will take place during the third annual network conference of the 3R Competence Network NRW, from November 27 to 28, 2025. On the evening of the first day of the event, we cordially invite you to a get-together in Aachen. The renowned RWTH Aachen University Animal Welfare Award will be presented there. This is a special opportunity to recognize outstanding contributions to animal welfare and strengthen the network at the same time.
