Family-Friendliness and Life-Domain-Balance
Since 2009, RWTH has held the "family-friendly university audit" certificate, which has been confirmed by repeated audits, each of which was linked to various family-friendly target agreements that continue to be stringently pursued.
The following aspects are covered by the "audit family-friendly university":
- Integration of family-friendliness into the university philosophy and strategy
- Systematic anchoring of family-friendly working and study conditions in the organization, culture, tools and communication of the university
- Ensuring a high degree of penetration and enabling a critical review of the effectiveness of the measures and the adaptation of existing measures.
The Faculty of Medicine at RWTH Aachen University is also constantly working on these aspects. In addition to the Vice Deanery for Structure and Equal Opportunities and the Vice Deanery for Research, Young Academics and Equal Opportunities, the Commission for Equal Opportunities is working particularly intensively on this topic. The Faculty of Medicine faces a particular challenge in this regard, as it has to perform patient care tasks in addition to the typical faculty tasks of teaching and research.
There is a family service office for parents at RWTH Aachen University Hospital, which offers individual advice and support for all employees on all family-related issues. This service office also organizes the Kinderland, which offers childcare during off-peak hours and can be found in the entrance area of the university hospital. It is intended to enable parents to take part in events in the early evening hours, for example. Other facilities include a breastfeeding and quiet room and a parent-child office.
Together with the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, the Faculty of Medicine also offers all employees the opportunity to borrow the KidsBox (mobile nursery) free of charge to help with childcare in emergency situations. Inquiries can be sent to kidsbox@ukaachen.de.
RWTH awards the FAMOS prize to Executives who are particularly committed to creating a family-friendly atmosphere in everyday working life.
Employees can obtain information on questions relating to physical, mental and social health from the Staff Health Management department - the Center for Mental Health for Students (ZPG) can advise you on mental crises and psychological problems during your studies and doctorate.
