Family-Friendliness and Life-Domain-Balance
Since 2009, RWTH has held the "family-friendly university audit" certificate, which has been confirmed by repeated audits, each of which was linked to various family-friendly target agreements that continue to be stringently pursued.
The following aspects are covered by the "audit family-friendly university":
- Integration of family-friendliness into the university philosophy and strategy
- Systematic anchoring of family-friendly working and study conditions in the organization, culture, tools and communication of the university
- Ensuring a high degree of penetration and enabling a critical review of the effectiveness of the measures and the adaptation of existing measures.
The Faculty of Medicine at RWTH Aachen University is also constantly working on these aspects. In addition to the Vice Deanery for Structure and Equal Opportunities and the Vice Deanery for Research, Young Academics and Equal Opportunities, the Commission for Equal Opportunities is working particularly intensively on this topic. The Faculty of Medicine faces a particular challenge in this regard, as it has to perform patient care tasks in addition to the typical faculty tasks of teaching and research.
RWTH Aachen University offers a Family Service for parents that provides personalized advice and support on all family-related matters.
RWTH awards the FAMOS prize to Executives who are particularly committed to creating a family-friendly atmosphere in everyday working life.
In addition, the School of Medicine, in collaboration with the University Hospital RWTH Aachen, offers all employees access to “Kinderland,” an open childcare facility located at the entrance to the UKA. The contact persons for this are Monika Ensch and Christina Cevik from the UKA Personnel Center. Additionally, the KidsBox (mobile playroom) can be borrowed free of charge to assist with childcare in emergency situations. Inquiries can be directed to kidsbox@ukaachen.de.
Employees can obtain information on questions relating to physical, mental and social health from the Staff Health Management department - the Center for Mental Health for Students (ZPG) can advise you on mental crises and psychological problems during your studies and doctorate.
