CSP Program - Apply now!
The Clinician Scientist Program at the Faculty of Medicine of RWTH Aachen University is aimed at physicians who wish to pursue research alongside their clinical work and comprises four funding lines; the call for applications for the “Short-Term” funding line has been issued separately.
Applications for the following funding lines can be submitted from now until June 1, 2026 exclusively via the ProFund portal (https://profund.ukaachen.de):
Clinician Scientist Program - “Main” funding line
The “Main” funding line of the Clinician Scientist Program is aimed at physicians in advanced specialist training who are also pursuing an academic career.
Clinician Scientist Program - “Junior” funding line
The “Junior” funding line is intended to enable entry into a combined clinical and scientific career at the Faculty of Medicine at RWTH Aachen University.
Clinician Scientist Program - “Rotation” funding line
The “Rotation” funding line makes it possible to learn new research methods and techniques in other research institutions (national and international). The aim is to advance the individual's scientific career and to act as a multiplier, i.e. to establish the new methods and techniques in one's own clinic or faculty.
Clinician Scientist Program - “short-term” funding line
Within the framework of the funding line “short-term” of the Clinician Scientist Program, the Faculty of Medicine awards research fellowships for clinically active scientists. The funding line is intended to enable clinically active scientists to take protected research time at short notice. (!!ATTENTION: Changed conditions!!) A maximum of 3 months can be applied for in the form of full-time equivalents. These can be extended if the scope of work is reduced accordingly. The duration can vary between 3 and 6 months, with a scope of work of 20–100%. The research time can be used, for example, to carry out smaller research projects, to learn new methods in an already existing research project, to prepare publications or third party funding proposals in case of outstanding preliminary work.
Key requirements: Applicants must hold a tenured position of at least half-time, have a doctoral degree, and submit a clear research time plan. The program's website provides the statutes (with additional requirements), information on the application process, and the link to the application portal.
All necessary information is available on the website of the Program.
Applications can be submitted immediately and exclusively via the ProFund portal (https://profund.ukaachen.de). The application deadline is June 1, 2026 and the earliest start of funding is January 1, 2026.
